Baccarat Guide

How to Play Baccarat

Of all the table games, Baccarat is one of the easiest to learn. It is a game of chance and is usually played with eight decks of cards. Tens and face cards have a value of zero, aces count as one, and all other cards are equal to their value. Where the score is double figures, the first digit is dropped. Bets are placed on who will have a card total value closest to nine - the banker or the player or whether the two hands will tie. Player and the banker are each dealt two cards. If the player’s total value is 5 or less he will be dealt a third card. The banker will then be dealt a third card if the total value of his hand is now less than the player's.

Baccarat Variations

The number of the decks used may vary from one casino to another. In casinos in the Far East, the cards are dealt face down.

Baccarat Tips

If a player is dealt an eight or a nine with the first two cards it is called a “natural” and he wins automatically. If the banker is also dealt a natural, the outcome is a tie and nobody wins or loses.
The winning hand pays out 1:1, but a bet on the dealer has a 5% commission if it wins. Take this into account when playing. If the bet is on a tie, the payout is 8:1. A win on a tie is rare and is generally not recommended as it decreases the chances of winning.
